Senior of the Week: Alex Smith

Our second "Senior of the Week" piece focuses on senior outfielder, Alex Smith. Alex Smith was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to his parents, Stewart and Laura Smith. He grew up in Springdale, Arkansas, where he attended Springdale High School. Not only was Alex a stand out center fielder for Springdale, but he also was a standout on the football field as well. After high school, Alex committed to the University of the Ozarks. His freshman year, Alex burst on the scene playing in 27 games, and leading the team with 7 steals. His sophomore year he was second on the team in batting average and once again led the team in steals. His junior year Alex posted 47 at-bats in 16 games. Alex is posed to have a fantastic senior season as he hopes to lead the Eagles to the conference tournament.

Senior of the Week: Week 1

Andrew Beck is this weeks senior of the week. Andrew was born on May 1st, 1995 in Conway, Arkansas to his parents, Gray and Natalie Beck. Andrew would go on to attended St. Joesphs High School, and there he would excell as a two sports athlete. Andrew was not only a stand out as a pitcher, and short stop in baseball, but he was also a standout in basketball. Andrew has also been a stand out since he came to the University of the Ozarks. His first year at the University of the Ozarks he rushed onto the scene claiming the starting short stop position and solidifying a key spot in the bullpen as a pitcher. He finished the year as an all-conference honorable mention, while finishing second on the team in almost every offensive category. He batted .308 and tied a school record with 2 triples. He then followed up his sensational freshman year with an even better sophomore year. In 2015 he was named to the All-Conference First Team, and the All-Region Third Team. He led the team in average (.385), hits (57), and RBI's (21). He also finished in the top ten in the conference in batting. Andrew's Junior season he made the move from short stop to right field. Andrew took well to the move and continued his impressive baseball career as an Eagle. He was hitting an amazing .429 batting average, but his season was cut short due to a broken bone in his foot. He suffered this injury April 12 during a game at Hendrix College. He would miss the final 12 games of the season. Even though Andrew missed 12 games he still lead the team in several offensive categories and still was in the top 5 on the team in games played, and led the team in homeruns (2). Andrew is hopefully in a situation where he can make a comeback. He will miss most of the teams fall season as he nurses his foot back to health. Hopefully Andrew will be back to begin the season, and continue his outstanding career as an Eagle
